2009 May Prayer Guides
The nanana family and Cuernavaca ministry
Cuernavaca, Mexico
It has been awhile since we sent out our last prayer guides. I’m sure you missed us for the last two months as much as we did miss you guys. Right? We’ve been in and out these times. Here is the long time overdue prayer guides.
In March, Abe spoke at a session for “Blessed to Bless”, a mission seminar of ANC. About 150 attended. All Nations Church has strongly been increased its mission endeavors toward Mexico and beyond in Latin America. So Abe talked about our mission experience in Mexico.
In March, Abe assisted an Inner Healing seminar (ANC) through which 80 participants named their life-stumbling-stones and made a vow to not only run away from them but confront to break through them. In doing so, they will restore the image of God which was once lost. PTL!
In April, Abe went to La Piedad, Michoacan (Mexico) to assist a Father School to Mexican church leadership. It was a trial launching program, but it turned to be a blessing to 70 fathers who remade their fatherhood to be more loving and caring. Abe was in charge of a table with 5 fathers (two of them were full-time pastors). It was also a time of refreshing his fatherhood. Please pray for pastor Miguel (far right in the rear row) who has made a vow to strengthen his fatherhood and husbandhood. He confessed this vow in a written form on a letter to his wife.

In April, we’ve celebrated our youngest son Nahum’s 9th birthday. He is third grader and smart enough to solve the math by himself. So far … ☺
In April, we’ve had spiritual retreat among the CRWM Mexico missionaries in Tijuana, Mexico. It was very joyful time to be together once again, especially as swain flu hit the country at that time. Our local partners are doing ok from this threatening disease. PTL!
In March and April, we were blessed through the church visits to Hope Community (Riverside), Palm Lane and West Valley Christian Fellowship (Phoenix area), Good Shepherd (LA), Bridge (West Covina), ANC (Sunland). Praise God for He has surely shown His grace to all of them.
PRAYER GUIDES FOR MAY:
1. Thanks for the extra love and care you’ve shown us. We are now finished with the vehicle fundraising project. We started it faithlessly but God has confirmed us that it was under His control.
2. We do have last month of church visits. They are as follows: Almond Valley (17th), Friendship (31st).
3. Every Friday afternoon – We have led a Bible study at a rehab center (Spanish speaking). There are 20 enrolled and many are very receptive to the Word. Pray for the pastor Mario the founder and Adam the leader.
4. Every Thursday – Elaine has been leading prayer group and a coffeebreak Bible study group in Los Angeles. They will end in mid May, as we need to prepare our return to the field in few more weeks.
5. May 18-21 – The Korean Council will have its annual meetings.
6. Elaine will also serve as a volunteer for an upcoming inner healing seminar of ANC. We would also need volunteers for our year-end-seminar in Cuernavaca.
7. In mid June we will go back to Mexico.
8. The financial crisis has affected seriously too on our missions activities. We are financially short for our living and ministry budgets. Please join us in prayer that this crisis will help us react wisely in spirit, and gather the necessary funds. We humbly ask your additional generosity if you consider this valuable for your spiritual growth. Many thanks and blessings.
Thanks very much for your unceasing prayer and restless care. It is also our prayer for you that God will show His deep and ongoing grace on your needs. We prayerfully report this and ask for your partnership.

January is already the past. Abe had a surprised birthday party on the front street of Rosemead house. Two ANC sisters delivered the delicious cake all the way and light it on the street. It is fun to have another birthday party but in an unexpected place. Thanks. Nathan also had his birthday party but daddy couldn’t be present due to the Home Service Deputation in Michigan.
PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY & MINISTRY WHILE ON HOME SERVICE:
• Feb. 1-9: Home service church visits are going well. However, we are challenged back from almost all the churches how hard they work to survive in this economical harshness. Michigan has seen so much snow this year but forecasted to expect a lot more snow for the next week. Abe is scheduled visit churches in Chicago and Detroit. Please pray for safety on the roads.
• Feb. 2-3: Our children will go for the first time in their entire lives on school camping. They are so excited for this activity. They expect to play on snow and in jacuzzi.
• Next 8 Tuesdays – We volunteered to assist Tiempo Con Dios Seminar at ANC. It is the 8 week program. May both leaders and attendees taste the sweetness of the Word!
• Feb. 15: A Elaine’s high-school friend (Michell Lee) will be commissioned for missions to Japan. Pray for the souls in this spiritually confused country.
• Pray also for the Ocampos and the Aquinos who have been at the Inner Healing Seminar in Ciudad Juarez. These pastors and wives are potential ministry partners to us especially in the area of developing spirituality. We have prayed for them to personally experience this kind of lightly practiced area of Christian life.
• Bill and Laura have made their way safely to Cuernavaca last week. The weather is perfect for them to escape from the cold Michigan. Bill has already started ministering the seminary in DF and making contacts with Emmanuel Presbytery. Pray that God would guard them from all dangers but enjoy serving our Mexican brothers and sisters. Thanks Bill and Laura.
• We have been serving a rehab center in Los Angeles. A Hispanic pastor has led this for many years but always shortage of spiritual nourishment. There are 16 men responding to the Word. Some of them visit often (sometimes 2-3 times a week) to relatively poor rehab centers in Tijuana. We’ve been using the One-to-One discipleship manual. We still need 3 months to finish the manual and plan to give them a nice diploma for them to have a sense of success.
• We have been raising a fund for our next vehicle for missions service. By God’s grace we have received so far 90% of the budget. Our plan is to buy a car here in Michigan since we are promised to get a very good deal through a church friend. But we need to raise a bit more to complete the purchase. Our deep and wholehearted gratitude to those who have shown to us their generosity in the Lord! … If the purchase happens in Michigan, Abe will drive by himself all the way to California. How fun … since he just gained a year younger!!! For any questions please contact us at chiapslee@gmail.com or call 626-222-1882 (Elaine’s cell).
PRAY FOR ELAINE’S WHEREABOUTS:
• Elaine continues on leading the Parents Prayer Meeting at New Covenant Academy on Thursdays. A few moms are gathering to kneel down for the sake of their children and the school to be a better educational place.
• In the midst of struggles due to malfunctioning leadership, Elaine has been a positive addition to a Coffeebreak Bible study center. The book of Exodus is in use and has been a blessing for all the endeavored participants. Long live the Word in them!
• At the same time, Elaine gets nourished by a deaconess on personal discipleship. They are not only growing in Bible knowledge but also in their personal relationship in Christ.
• Elaine’s younger brother Keith is getting married on Feb. 28. Pray that he will be a good husband and leader of the new family.
Thanks very much once again. No matter how harsh this economy will be, let us remember this word of the apostle Paul in Philippians 1:6-7a (NASB):
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, …
We know that God knows why this difficult time has been placed before us. And we also know that God has great plan through it. God is with us. We just need to trust Him. Blessings,
The nanana family

Happy New Year! Have you set new life or ministry challenges for 2009? According to the Chinese calendar, 2009 is the year of Ox, and general people born in any year of Ox (every 12 year cycle) are dependable, calm, methodical, patient, hardworking, ambitious, conventional, steady, modest, logical, resolute, and tenacious. Can be stubborn, narrow-minded, materialistic, rigid, or demanding. Interesting, isn’t it? Naomi was born 12 years ago, a year of Ox; and we see many of these characteristics in her, though we don’t believe in much of these.
Abe is with the family. During the Christmas week, we enjoyed a blessed and wonderful musical performance at our home church, All Nations Church, which re-ignited the church for an active North Korea Missions involvement.
PRAY REQUESTS:
1. 1/4... Abe’s birthday. He will be a year younger.
2. 1/12–2/9... Abe will be in Michigan for home service consultation and church visitations.
3. 1/19... Nathan’s birthday. Please bless him with your prayer. Thanks.
4. 1/23-24... Inner Healing Seminar (ANC’s Ministry) in Ciudad Juarez. Elaine plans to be at the seminar to assist with translation. We’ve invited some church leaders (Ricardo Aquino and Jose Ocampo and their wives) from Cuernavaca to participate in the seminar. Please pray for their safe travel. We plan to implant this ministry with them. (FYI: ANC has been short of human resource in doing Mexico missions. So they have approached us for a number of activities, called Vision 800, from Tijuana to Cd. Juarez. It offers a lot to learn, so we may get involved a little.)
5. Please continue to pray for TEE center in Cuernavaca (16 students), AMICH (30 future missionaries), Chiapas Bible Institutes (25 students), Reformed Theological Seminary in Mexico City (15 students), and 6 churches in Emmanuel presbytery.
6. Our dearest friend (ANC) extended an invitation for us to get involved in a Spanish-speaking rehab center in town. We committed to support the center with an hour Bible Study (every Friday). Abe is using One-to-One discipleship material.
7. We continue with the vehicle fundraising to replace our well used SUV for a semi-new vehicle during our home service (Dec. 2008 – June 2009). We are so thankful to those who have already sent in their wholehearted offerings. We are wordless for your sacrifices regardless this long economic crisis. We give thank you on behalf of our generous God. Please continue to pray for the remaining fund onto its completion (about $5000). Should you have any questions regarding the fundraising, please contact us at chiapslee@gmail.com or call 626-222-1882 (Elaine’s cell).
PRAY for ELAINE’s MINISTRY:
1. Elaine leads a prayer meeting at NCA (nanana’s school) every Thursday morning. Only a handful people are joining the meeting, but we see God’s greatness through prayers.
2. Following prayer meeting, she also leads a Coffee break Bible study. Please pray for her as she prepares and leads the Bible study. They are studying the book of Exodus.
3. One to One discipleship training with Mrs. Chang is going well.
In the name of our Lord, we would like to say THANK YOU for all of your prayer and generous givings. For 2009, this is a challenge, at least for our family: Let Jesus give the first steps in everything throughout the year 2009? Let Him be the priority in life and in ministry … Have a blessed year!
Blessings from the NANANA family.

PRAISES
Thanks to all who sent birthday cards, cakes, and gifts to Elaine. She had four birthday cakes. She really enjoyed it.
November has been a month with unusual cold here in Cuernavaca. It was the coldest year in many decades. Even in Mexico City weathermen predict to expect snow in this winter. First time since the 70s! I guess it's not happening only here but all over the world. Praise the Lord that everything is under His control.
Abe had joyfully led Tiempo Con Dios Seminars in number of places (Aguascalientes, Quechultenango, & Cuernavaca). Most participants have expressed their appreciation for the devotional book and praised the seminar as a helping tool for them to develop their spiritually intimate relationship with Lord.
Abe has mentored a seminary student. Efrain was overloaded with 13 courses in this semester. As time went by, he realized that it was too much for him. He is also a father to three children. Two of them are still in kindergarten. His attention had obviously been divided into study and ministry. During the semester, he was assigned to minister a mid-sized congregation. He had very little time for his family. Once this semester ends, he will give a little more attention to his family. God bless him and his family whose sacrifice is heavenly treasure in the eyes of God.
Amigos Sin Frontera had successfully finished their medical brigade to Durango. They attended literally hundreds of patients in 4 day service and many of them heard to the very saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that there will soon born a worshipping community out of this ministry.
TEE in Cuernavaca has been steady in number of students and pastors' collaborations. Praise the Lord for His awesome walk with them.
El Nazareno RPC is slowly putting in order in their church ministry as their leadership learn Christian worldview and life view through Monday Bible study. Elder Jaime has put more of his time and resources to learn the Bible and improve his role as a leader. He enrolled in TEE program.
Elaine and Nanana had a car accident on Thanksgiving Day Eve. The car they were in has been crashed so badly that it had to be junked. However, just as we pray in Spanish, "los angeles encamparon alrededor de ellos", God Himself surrounded and guarded them. They were able to have a Thanksgiving dinner with siblings. PTL.
PRAY FOR CUERNAVACA and CHIAPAS:
1. Monday Bible Study at El Nazareno RPC continues on weekly base. Now each week the participants are taking turn in leading the study. Abe has assigned and encouraged them to do this way. Please pray for Jaime elder and Felipe obrero for their leadership.
2. Wednesday Men's Club at Shekinah RPC continues. Since November the meeting has been led by the participants. Tomas deacon has grown in handling Tiempo Con Dios and applying it for his sermon preparation.
3. The fall semester of the Seminary in Mexico City will end soon (second week of December). Pray that about 15 students will not be exhausted but joyfully complete their study duties.
4. Dec. 6 – Abe will complete his course on Acts for the TEE center in Cuernavaca. Our 16 students have faithfully walked through the book, and now are about to finish their thorough interpretation. Pray that they will continue to explore other books of the Bible on their own.
5. Dec. 7 – Emmanuel Presbytery will have a 4 hour training on evangelism. Abe will share his experience and instruct them with "Evangelism Explosive" evangelism method. We expect to have about 50 people.
6. Dec. 8-10 – Abe will teach a course on Church History at Chiapas Bible Institute. Pray that pastor Jose Lopez will be encouraged by Abe's presence. He continues in charge of this institute in Chiapas.
7. Following Bible Institute course, Abe will give a course on Gender Equality for Diaconia of Chiapas. The theme is their choice, and we hope to contribute some healthy biblical view on manhood and womanhood. The study will be on Dec. 11-12, in Zaragoza, Chiapas.
8. Dec. 14 – Shekinah RPC will celebrate a special service for her anniversary (Abe will preach). The church authority will dedicate a small but meaningful wooden pulpit for this occasion. May the church continue to grow in Spirit and knowledge in word.
9. Dec. 15 – Travel for home service. Abe will join the family in L.A.
10. Should you have any questions regarding the fundraising, please contact us at chiapslee@gmail.com or call 626-222-1882 (Elaine's cell)
PRAY for ELAINE's MINISTRY:
1. Elaine started to lead a group at Coffee break Bible study. Please pray for her as she prepares and leads the Bible study. They are studying the book of Exodus.
2. Elaine will participate a street evangelism as practicum for the Evangelism class she has taken. Pray for the people who will share the gospel and those who will hear the gospel.
3. Elaine will receive One to One discipleship training from Mrs. Chang. She will mentor Elaine for 4 months. Please that that each of them will have a blessed time.
4. Elaine is also preparing to give a bible study to people in a rehabilitation center in L.A. in Spanish. May God give wisdom to Elaine as she leads the group.
5. Our children are happy at New Covenant Academy, Los Angeles. They have quickly adjusted back to US culture. However, they have mixed feeling as they also miss their school friends in Mexico. What a life of MKs…!
On behalf of our Lord, we would like to say THANK YOU from our heart. We bless you and pray for your boldness in the Lord in this difficult time of financial crisis. Please read 1 Corinthians 16:10. As you welcomed us into your faith journey, God will not forsake your service to Him. May all you be filled of God's blessing!
Blessings, from the NANANA family
