January 2017 Prayer Concert

God has been so gracious and attentive that after all our life has been plenty and merciful by Him. We thank you so much, dear Lord.

Praise God and pray with us for the following needs:
1.- Monthly mentoring continues. We had it on the very first Monday (Jan 2). Ramon brought a dozen of tamales with deer meat he hunted last month. Israel got a traditional bread ‘Rosca de Reyes’ (The King cake) to share with us. He is always thoughtful for others, so we had a good morning talk and new year cheers.

2.- Elaine will lead pastor wives’ fellowship on the 7th at Cristo Vive Church (Pastor Santiago). They will work on book reading and sharing. Elizabeth (Agua Viva Church), among others, is very motivated to get involved in learning and building up her gifts through this fellowship.

3.- Korean missionary peer group and network will have our second meeting as mutual learning small group and ministry sharing network. Rev. Kim (Emanuel Church, a mission in Terraza) will share his findings on Christian Spirituality. He is from Christian & Missionary Alliance.

4.- Coffee Break small group will gather at Cristo Arca de Salvacion Church (Armando Ponce) on the 10th. We will take a walk through Acts (volume 1 out of 3), which will take 2 months. May there come good number of people hopely with a vision for God’s Kingdom worldview and lifeview. Especially pray for Gil and Eleazar, who have shown learning growth with deep application in life through the book of Ruth.

5.- Focusing Leader Network meeting will have its 3rd encounter (Jan. 14). We will be talking about spiritual battle that we may face in doing ministry and even at home. Pray that our 5-7 pastor couples who come to the meetings will continue to battle for their growth deep and wide on God’s calling.

6.- We are grateful to step in the area of our churches’ spiritual needs. Our mentorees agreed to welcome a speaker on prayer. On Jan. 20-21, we will assist a Prayer school (by Rev. Kim who had come some years ago to Cuernavaca) at Agua Viva Church (Obrero Israel Ponce). The theme has been chosen, “Teach us to pray” from The Lord’s Prayer.

7.- A preparation meeting for upcoming AID Seminar in February will be held on Jan 19. We have about 10 volunteers that is not enough to run and assist the event. But we also have another 10 people coming from outside the Tijuana area. We pray that God goes ahead of us to find and recruit local volunteers. We will schedule a fast calendar for a month to the dates of event (Feb. 10-11).

8.- We will offer a Timothy Leadership course (Stewardship) at an independent church starting on Jan 26.

9.- We have finally published the book of Esther to add to Coffee Break study bookshelves. So we have built Coffee Break library with about 10 titles.

10.- Thank God that we were able to spend family vacations along with Naomi. Naomi will go back to Iowa at the end of this week. May she be healthier and maturer as she builds her life goals according to God's call.

11.- Praise God for Elaine’s growing interest in learning at Bethel Seminary. She got pleasing grades last semester, and very healthy relationship with all staff. Soon she will have a license exam. May God open a door for her to experience further blessings in this area.

12.- Our boys, Nathan and Nahum, are getting through their teenager-hood smooth and effectively. We praise God for being their God in all times.

December 2016 Prayer Concert

As Thanksgiving week is passing, we certainly notice the time has flown so fast. The year 2016 has been busiest year in the last 17 years of our mission effort in Mexico. We are deeply thankful to God. This year, we’ve led 4 AID seminars, 2 Coffee Break conferences, 2 Bible Reading groups and a seminar, 1 focusing leader retreat, among others…We kept ourselves busy but all were possible due to our Mexican ministry teams. Next year 2017 will look like similar, but as always our focus is not event-oriented event, rather growth-in-depth of each participant. So we always emphasize and offer respective follow-up studies following each event.

Please join us in prayer for the following.

1.- We will start off the month celebrating God’s mercy throughout the year along with our close friends in ministry. Dec 3rd is the day we extended an invitation for a Christmas dinner to dozens of families in ministry who were along with us in 2016.

2.- On the same day, we have our second gathering for Focusing Leader Network. In this session, we will be talking about our obedience to God’s calling. There are 7 pastoral couples in the group. May this gathering help them strengthen their ministry philosophy and matrimonial relationship.

3.- The #8 group of Bible reading (BR16) will celebrate their long journey (4 months) through the Bible on Dec 2nd. God gave an opportunity to this group of 40 readers from Todas las Naciones Church (pastor Humberto Leyva). We started off with 60 people but remained 40+ people including David Eliud, wheel-chaired cerebral palsy teen.

4.- About 20 Coffeebreakers at Cristo Arca de Salvacion church will finish up the study of Ruth as they will share personal testimony on the 13th day of month. Especially, the 5+ men (Abe’s group) have expressed how they see themselves in the story of Ruth and Naomi. Eleazar and Gil explained how their understanding of the book changed. They have found new Boaz.

5.- We will start a peer group among Korean missionaries in Tijuana. So far we’ve had them in personal contacts, but starting 2017 we will develop it into a learning community. There are 5 families interested.

6.- On the Christmas day we will have a commencement service of Reformed Presbyterian Seminary Tijuana campus. Abe will preach for the occasion.

7.- Our kids had overall good semester, especially with after-school varsity football and soccer activities. Naomi is scheduled to come home on 12/16. Pray that they will have excellent winter break.

8.- Pray for the Posada Fronteriza scheduled on the 10th. It is a bi-national family activity among migrants. Last year, they gathered at the borderline to unite family members on both sides creating a heart. It is to encourage migrants remain united.

9.- Pray for the homeless ministry on 12/10. Every 2nd Saturday of month, a service and learning team of Good Stewards Church comes to minister homeless in Tijuana downtown. We’ll accompany them with the preaching of Word.

10.- Please pray for the health of pastor Gerardo Garcia (Filadelfia NPC, Cuernavaca). He recently received prostate cancer surgery, lost so much weight, and needs to get back to his pastoral duty.

11.- Elaine is also finishing up her semester at Bethel Seminary San Diego. Her last day of class is on 12/16. Pray that she also finish it well.

12.- We are scheduling ministerial calendar for the year 2017. May God give us wisdom to schedule according to God’s given gifts and needs of Mexicans.

October 2016 Prayer Concert

Naomi is doing fine at her new life space, although she misses the family so badly. She has already built a good community with her roommates and Korean students. She keeps herself so busy at school and her financial world…she is getting jobs for the first time. We do miss her as well.

Please pray with us for the followings.

1.- Praise God for a wonderful Coffee Break workshop for the group of 91 pastors and church leaders in Merida. It was the very first workshop with this big group of participants, and everyone of them showed great passion for our method of Bible studies.

2.- Our home church, All Nations CRC (Sunland), has decided and settled with the need of new lead pastor. Pastor Tae Kim is now the senior pastor, young and energetic. We pray that he will further be a godly man with good sense of God’s calling and direction for the church.

3.- Oct. 3rd (Monday), Abe will receive his mentoring group (4 preachers) who will bring pictures submitted by their church members for our first photo contest “My Church”. May we can collect our thankfulness as we learn how much our churches understand and put in the small screen their church. Pray, in addition, for Emmanuel Velazquez who recently got a job to support his family need. It will however limit his pastoral schedule during weekdays.

4.- Coffee Break small groups continue at Cristo Arca de Salvacion Church (Armando Ponce). We barely started it couple weeks ago, but it sounds well received and the participants are already showing much interest in its method. May they take the Word into daily life application.

5.- A 12-hour Young Adult Night is on Oct 7-8 at Dios Altisimo church. It will be from 8pm to 8 am next morning. Three speaker will take turn for 4 hours each throughout the night teaching and sharing stories on Ten Commandments. Our main theme, "Consecrated Youth," will knock our youth hearts and lives. May they hear it and respond to it with an huge yes to God. Pray for pastors Robelio, Keith and Abe who will speak to them. Pray also for Saul our event organizer.

6.- Abe will preach at Emanuel Church (Mario Pascual). The church is celebrating the month of reformation, so Abe is given a specific them to preach about, “Grace Alone”. May God give His Word to us, so we will deliver it right at the heart of the church.

7.- Oct. 9th, Elaine and number of pastor’s wives will meet for the first time. They’ve been saying about this gathering for a long time, and it finally being reality. May they enjoy each other’s company and come up with future activities for their personal growth.

8.- Pray for meetings of field council and COMUNI in Merida. May all the decisions shine God’s wisdom in us as His servants. So His church will dance with joy and thanks.

9.- A Coffee Break Conference will be held at El Buen Pastor Church (Edgar De la Rosa) on Oct 19-20 in Villahermosa. The church had delegated its leaders last month event in Merida. They have returned home with clarified idea about the CB objectives. We hope and pray that this conference will be a big plus for church growth and outreach.

10.- Please pray for elder Lorenzo Vazquez (El Buen Pastor church) who is going through medical delicacy. He is waiting analysis results on his stomach and other tests. May the good Lord show His mercy to this fine believer and exemplary church leader. We’ve enjoyed so much of his never weakening love and leadership for his church.

11.- Oct 21-22, Nueva Jerusalen Church, Villahermosa, will host our #20 AID Seminar. It’s the second time hosting, by the way, at this 130-year-old church. We are so grateful to God for His love of this church. Pray specially for elder Serafin who continues to dream with spiritual renewal of the church. Pray that the church will see another work of God to His people through this seminar.

12.- Oct 25, RPC pastors (book club) will study on the same-sex marriage at their monthly gathering. There is not enough Spanish literatures on this ever challenging topic of our time. May we all hear what God has to say to His church and now through us, His servants.

13.- Oct. 28 is our 21st anniversary. God has been so deeply working in our vow and daily activities. We give unceasing thanks to our God, the Maker and Witness of our union. He has blessed us and trained us to serve between us and to others. We pray that He will continue to hold us together and further grow in covenantal love and commitment to each other.

14.- Elaine continues her Tuesday morning Coffee Break studies. Now it draw more missionary wives who come to hear and unpack their heart stories. It is being a real blessing to a participant. She used to be very reluctant and passive to other gatherings until up to know the CB. Now she gives all of her Yeses as she felt fit in this kind of ministries and develop her skills.

15.- Oct 30, Abe will lead the Communion service at Manantial de Vida Church (Rafa Ramirez). It’s been a huge blessing for us as we had led this small congregation to an ever closer life to Jesus. May our God continue to pour His grace upon the church and each of its families.

Thanks for your friendly prayer and faithful givings.
